How Do I Connect with God? Tips to Become a Spiritual Person

How to Connect to God SpirituallyThis is a common question and a concern that many people have. As humans, we spend most days being confronted with worldly things by living in the world. Having a sincere connection with God can be difficult when we are constantly surrounded by so many things that keep us from this connection.

The Bible tells us that we can have a right relationship with God, despite our circumstances. We should constantly strive to maintain this relationship, but it’s not easy in the world.

I’m not saying that we should act like religious fanatics, but I believe in the importance of connecting to God spiritually. We, as Christians, are all called to a more profound relationship with God, yet too frequently we focus on our selfish desires.

How do you get closer to God spiritually?

Learn to listen

The most important thing you can do for your spiritual life is to open up your heart and mind to God. You can’t make yourself love Him, but if you let Him in, He will do the work for you.

How do you learn to hear God? The first step is to stop talking so much and listen instead. This can be difficult if you are not used to hearing from Him. If this is the case, start by listening for answers to questions you have had on your mind but haven’t yet asked anyone else.

Ask yourself what you would like God to say about the situation or question, and then listen for an answer. Listen to the still, small voice within and learn to discern it from your own thoughts.

Listen to His voice in your heart, not just the surrounding noise.  Keep a journal where you write down what He says to you and how He is leading you each day. Spend time alone with Him, away from other people and distractions.

The Bible says that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17), so if you want to be closer to God spiritually, start by learning how to listen better!

I’m not talking about the listening that comes from taking a quiz or being in an audience. I’m talking about the listening that comes from inside you.

Find a quiet place and ask God to speak to you

In the Bible, we often refer to God as a “Father.” One of the most important things a father does for his children is to listen. He listens to their ideas and opinions. He listens to them when they have problems, and he listens to them when they need advice.

God wants us to be like Him in this way. He wants us to speak with Him about our lives and about the things that are on our minds. Prayer is not just about asking God for help; it’s also about spending time with Him through conversation.

Start by finding a quiet place where you can be alone with Him. Then, ask God to speak to you — not with words, but with emotions or thoughts that arise out of nowhere. Don’t worry if they make little sense at first; just let them come and go as they please. If nothing happens right away, continue asking until something happens.

Once feelings come in more often, try listening to them when they come in—don’t just push them away or ignore them as though they were unimportant distractions from your daily life.

Let yourself feel whatever came into your head without judging whether it’s good or bad, necessary or unnecessary; just listen until it stops speaking and then moves on with your life as usual (without forgetting about it).

Be patient

“Be patient and let your heart be silent before God. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 26:14

I think it’s easy for us to get impatient when we’re waiting for God. We want answers right away, and we want them now! But God works in His own time and for His reasons. The more you’re able to be patient with yourself, the better your life will be. We cannot rush to get closer to God. We should be patient and trust in His love and guidance.

Through patience, there is no better way to grow closer to God. Growing in patience means that we learn how to wait on God’s timing instead of ours. We learn to trust His plan instead of our own. And we learn to seek Him first, rather than what is easiest.

It takes time for God to answer our prayers. He also wants us to be patient with others because they may need time before they can respond.

Confess your sins

One of the major steps in getting closer to God is to confess your sins and repent.

The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

If you have been sinning, you need to confess it.

Confession is a spiritual practice, and it’s not just for Catholics. It’s a way to get closer to God by admitting your sins and asking for forgiveness. But a confession isn’t just about saying, “I’m sorry.” It’s also about healing so that you can move forward with a clean slate.

If you’ve never made a formal confession before, here is what you need to do:

Go to God in prayer and ask Him to help you know what has to be confessed. He’ll show you if there’s anything from your past that has left an emotional scar or guilt in your heart that needs healing. If there are sins that need confessing, ask Jesus for forgiveness for them.

How to Connect to God In Prayer

How can I improve my spiritual connection with God?

Surrender your will and trust in the Lord

I’m surrendering my will to God. I am asking God to help me improve my spiritual connection with Him. Likewise, I know that if I give up control, He will guide me and lead me in the right direction. I have made mistakes in the past, but I know God is still there for me, and He loves me dearly.

I want to be better than who I was yesterday, so I will trust in Him alone for my salvation. By surrendering my will to God, He can work through me and make me a better person than I was before. If we let go of our pride and give it to God, then He can use us as instruments of His glory.

A true Christian is one who submits his or her will to the Lord. They will trust in God completely and let Him do His work in their lives.

Surrendering your will means you are letting go of control of your life. If you choose to surrender your will and let God take over, He will help you through whatever situation you find yourself in.

Trust in the Lord means having faith that God will help you through every trial and tribulation that comes into your life. If you don’t trust Him, then how can He help? He wants to guide us through this life and show us how amazing it can be if we let Him take control!

Obey whatever He tells you to do.

God’s commands don’t change over time, but they do change how we respond to them. That’s why we must understand God’s word correctly so that we will obey it properly in our daily lives. You know that what God tells you is not always easy, but it will always be good for you.

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command” (John 14:15).

He also said, “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him” (John 14:21).

There is a connection between spiritual growth and obedience.

Obeying God is not an option, but a necessity for anyone who wants to follow Christ. It is not good enough just to know about Him or even believe in Him. We need to obey His commands to experience the fullness of His love and presence in our lives.

Be thankful for where you are and where you’re going

  • Be grateful to God for everything that is happening in your life right now. If there is something you don’t like, it will eventually change.
  • Be thankful for the things that happen in your life, even if they’re hard. The things that don’t work out aren’t wasted time — they’re just lessons learned, so be grateful for them too.
  • Be thankful to God for the choices that you make every day. You may not be aware of it, but everything you do is a choice that affects your life and others around you. If you choose to be negative, then you will always see things negatively; but if you choose to be positive, then your perception of things will change too.

Tell others about what God is saying to you

Tell others about your experience with God. Let them know that you have experienced something new in your relationship with God. Tell them how it felt and what it meant to you.

Share the message of hope from Jesus Christ. Even if they don’t know Jesus, they need to know that He is there for them and that He loves them. They need to know that He wants to have a relationship with them, too!

Ask questions about their experiences with God and how they feel about Him. If they don’t want to talk about this, respect that decision, but keep trying until they open up to you about it.

The Bible says, “The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; His word is on my tongue” (2 Samuel 23:2).

Jesus told us that when He was here on earth, He spoke as God’s servant. Now that He’s in heaven, He speaks as God Himself (John 12:49).
