God has given the Church individual gifts and qualifications, which are called grace gifts (1 Cor. 12:4-11). One of these gifts is that of prophecy: a special ability to understand and interpret spiritual things, along with the ability to communicate them to others.
A prophetic gift is an extraordinary talent that the Holy Spirit gives to people, so they can help others with their spiritual problems.
It differs from other gifts of the Holy Spirit because it helps change the larger society for God.
Jesus foretold that the gift of prophecy would be available in the Church today. He provided us with a simple and easy-to-follow template on how to discern a true prophetic voice from one that is false.

Prophetic spiritual gift
The word “prophet” comes from the Greek prophets, which means “one who speaks for another.” A prophet speaks on behalf of God and tells others what God wants them to hear.
The spiritual gift of prophecy is given to believers, so they can receive direct revelation or insight from God. It’s a powerful ministry that anyone who has received this gift can use.
We sometimes refer to prophecy as “the discerning of spirits.” When you prophesy, you’re using your spiritual gift to discern whether something is from God or the enemy. In human terms, this can be very difficult because it’s not always obvious which spirit is involved in a situation or circumstance.
Do prophets exist today?
The answer to this question is a resounding “YES.” Prophets exist today. They are among us, and they are fulfilling the role of prophets as described in the Bible. And these prophets are not limited to those who have been ordained by churches or by organizations.
There are many people out there who claim to be “prophets”, but it’s clear when you ask questions about their ministry that they’re not legitimate.
But there are legitimate prophets who have the gift of prophecy and who are fulfilling their role as was prophesied in ancient times. God calls them. They speak His words to the world. They provide hope for those who need it most.
The Bible clearly states that prophets are to be above reproach. They should not lie or deceive anyone with their words. They are not allowed to use their position for personal gain. And they must be willing to suffer for the cause of Christ and the salvation of souls.
How do you know you have a spiritual gift?
There’s no one way to find out, but here are some ways to discover your gifts:
Ask that God show you how and where He would like to use you.
Write down what you enjoy doing and what comes naturally to you. Ask God to show you how He created you, and then see if there are any similarities between your talents and passions.
Be willing to listen to God’s voice.
Read the Bible and see what God says about you. Ask yourself, “What am I good at?”. Think about how your interests intersect with the world around you.
Spiritual gifts are like talents; they’re God-given abilities that help us use our gifts for His glory. For example, here are some signs of talent gifts:
The first sign is that you have an unusual interest in something. When you get around other people who share your interests, they will recognize something special about you. They discuss how much they enjoy being with you because it makes them feel so good inside just being around someone like you.
Another sign of spiritual gifts is that you seem to do certain things better than other people. Other people tell you all the time how great it is when they work with you because everything always goes smoothly and nothing ever goes wrong!
A spiritual gift is a special ability that you have that was given to you by God. It can be something that you have been blessed with at birth, or that has developed over time through the guidance of God and His word.
God gave spiritual gifts to Christians so that they may serve others in their Christian walk. The Bible tells us we are all called to serve each other (1 Peter 4:10). Our gifts are meant to be used for others, not just for ourselves.
How do I know if my gift is from God?
- Is the desire for this gift coming from your heart?
- Do you believe it’s something you want or need?
- Is there any way you can earn this gift? If so, then it’s probably not from God. A genuine miracle cannot be earned through hard work or sacrifice. It must come as an unearned blessing.
- Is there anything wrong with receiving this gift (e.g., will it cause you to compromise your standards)? If so, then Satan wants to lead you astray by tempting you with material things or opportunities that will distract you from serving God.
- Are there other believers who are also experiencing similar miracles (e.g., a financial windfall)? If so, then God is providing for His people.
God’s gifts are always for your good and His glory. The devil can’t do anything for you that will bring you real benefit or make you happy.
Can anyone be a prophet?
To prophesy is to speak for God. It’s not simply a matter of having a message or a vision; it’s about declaring that message as coming from God. It’s not something anyone can do.
I think there are at least 2 reasons we should all be open to receiving prophetic words and visions from God:
1. Because we require it!
We require God’s words, His wisdom, and His guidance in our lives more than ever before. How can we hear his voice if we don’t listen to what he says through others?
2. Because He wants us to!
Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (Rev 3:22). This means that Jesus wants us to pay attention and listen carefully when he speaks through others – especially through those who have been given the gift of prophecy!
If you feel you haven’t heard from God lately, then it’s because you haven’t been listening carefully enough when others speak on his behalf.
How do you activate the gift of prophecy?
When a man is preaching, sometimes he gets an impression of what God wants him to say. It usually comes as an idea or phrase that people think of while preaching and then repeat later.
Other times, it comes as a word or sentence that pops into his head while he is preaching (not like a thought that came from him). When these things happen, it’s easy enough to relate them to what we’ve been talking about so that people can understand where they are coming from.
It is a gift that God gives to people who are willing and available to receive it. It is not something that you can learn or practice, but it is something that will come to you as you pray, read the Bible, and listen to God’s voice.
Many people have this gift of prophecy, and they do not even know it because they don’t understand what it is or how it works. They just have an inner urge that tells them when God wants them to speak about something.
For example, if I am praying for someone and I feel like I am supposed to ask them a specific question, then it is a good sign that God has given me the gift of prophecy.
What is walking in the prophetic?
This means that they have completely surrendered to God, so He guides and directs their lives. They listen to His voice and follow it wherever it may lead them. They also keep their eyes open for ways that they can help others through their gifts and talents.
To live a prophetic walk, one must first be born again by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Bible says in John 3:3-7:
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Then Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee…” “Verily, I say unto you: Except ye be converted (changed), and become as little children (be humble), ye shall not enter into.”
Next, one must be baptized in water as a sign of their new life in Christ. Then they need to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, who will guide them and help them discern God’s voice for their lives.
As we grow in our faith, we need to learn how to listen for God’s voice and discern His will. We must also be willing to live out the things He shows us to fulfill our destiny.
Why do some people have greater gifts than others?
According to the Bible, God has given gifts to every believer, but He has also given them to us in different ways. We all have a unique set of abilities and talents that we can use to serve others and make the world a better place.
Apostle Paul wrote about this in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. In this passage, he said that God had given some leaders to the church and that these leaders were important because they helped build up the church. However, he also said that each person should use the gift God had given them to others.
People are not born with their gifts; they are not something that can be passed on genetically, like eye color or height. Rather, they come from God and are given by Him to each person at different times and in different ways as they grow up.
Some people are more talented than others, but that doesn’t mean they have greater gifts. God has different purposes for each of us, and He uses our unique gifts to accomplish His will.
What is the calling of a prophet?
God has called prophets to reveal His word to humanity. This revelation should lead people back to God and bring them to salvation. It is also meant to guide us in our daily lives so that we may live according to God’s will rather than our selfish desires.
The calling of a prophet is not necessarily to solve the world’s problems. They are there to remind us that God is in control, that He loves us and cares about every detail of our lives.
Not everyone who claims to be a prophet actually has this calling, but there are many people in history who have been able to prove their authenticity.
Prophets are also called to warn people of coming judgment. This is not intended to scare people into submission, but rather it is meant as a wake-up call that God’s love and mercy are not endless—sin must be repented of and atoned for.
If you believe God has spoken to you through prophecy, share it with someone who can confirm it as a genuine message from an all-knowing, loving God. God has called Christians to represent Him by delivering prophetic messages.
Remember that while not everyone can be a prophet, everyone can hear God, and every believer has a spiritual gift.
